Senate approves establishment of Federal Polytechnic, to be sited in Aba

Senate on Tuesday approved the establishment of Federal Polytechnic Aba, saying the institution would provide technical education to the people in the zone. In the committee report by Senator Jobrin Barau representing Kano North Senatorial district, it stated that Polytechnic education became necessary in view of the fact that the people of Abia and particularly, Aba were highly industrialised people. Nigeria’s Information minister, Lai Mohammed, has claimed that the government spends about N3.5 million monthly to feed a Shiite cleric who has been detained by government for over two years. Following a viral video of a police officer drunk while on duty at the Dopemu area of Lagos, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, has ordered the closure of all beer parlours within the police community in the state. A passenger with Etihad Airways, Mr. Ademola Adekele, in the early hours of Wednesday slumped and died at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, our reporter learnt. National Assembly okays autonomy for local governments, INEC to be in charge of Local Government elections!!!

The National Assembly on Tuesday, granted full financial and administrative autonomy to all the 774 local council authorities across Nigeria by amending section 124 of the nation’s constitution.
