Police in Bwari nabs local comedian for promoting fake news on social media

The Police in Bwari Area Council of the Federal capital territory have arrested a local comedian, Mr Valentine, fondly called Mc Fine by fans, for promoting fake news through his social media account.

According to the police, Mc Fine had earlier raised a fake alarm through his facebook account that a woman was caught in Bwari attempting to steal a child who was playing with his mates around the popular Bwari market.

 “The children were seen playing close to a zenith bank where they sale bicycle and a short while a strange woman was spotted carrying a child and the people watching from far thought the child fell and she picked him up, but to their amazement the woman started moving towards another bank, FCMB, far from where the children were playing and immediately the eye witness who noticed what was happening decided to follow the strange woman and they approached her, questioned her and the woman started shouting, “I like this child, I like this child, This aroused suspicion as the crowd gathered, checked her phone which revealed how many children she was asked to provide from a phone sms conversation”. He wrote.

SuncityNews reports that a middle aged woman known as Zulai was on Wednesday almost lynched by the mob beside Zenith bank in the middle of the township for attempting to kidnap a 2-year-old male child.

But after police investigation, it was discovered that the whole story was cooked up by Mc Fine who is currently in Police custody.  In an interview with the SuncityNews, MC Fine said that an eyewitness gave him the pictures and video which he immediately posted on his social media to promote his page, without confirming from any other person.

Also Speaking to SuncityNews, CSP Biodun Makanjuola, DPO Bwari Police station, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the comedian, and said that investigation is ongoing but a provisional medical report has been conducted on the alleged kidnapper and report indicates that the woman in question is a depressed woman, who is said to have been struggling with mental health issues.

“We have taken her to Bwari general hospital for medical examinations and the preliminary report confirmed her health statues and doctors have referred her to Kura general hospital for further medical examination.

According to the DPO, normalcy has returned in the area and the police have been working with the families involved to douse the situation, so that it will not escalate knowing the volatile nature of the area, he said.

Collaborating the police report, Aisha Aliyu, Assistant Secretary Muslim Women Inda’wa, Bwari, an Islamic woman organization in Bwari where the alleged kidnapper woman belongs to, has come out to say that the woman is well known to them and has been their member for over fifteen years. “This woman is known to us, we know her kids and also know that children around this area love to play with her, she has a mental problem, which happens occasionally and we have been trying to manage the situation, she is not a kidnapper, she just like to play with children, she reiterated

Furthermore, Mr Dikko Samuel, mai Anguwan Bwari and the grandfather of the alleged kidnapped child has also asked the public to ignore the fake alarm, confirming that the woman did not mean evil, “people should learn to live in peace, we do not want trouble in Bwari again, this woman is known to us and we do believe that she has no bad intention to kidnap our child”.
